VP / Head of Research and Alliance Management

LUPAGEN has a unique opportunity for someone who wants to make an impact in emerging medical technology. We are developing a bedside, patient-connected cell and gene therapy platform that will directly address fundamental barriers to cost and safety of CAR-T cell and gene editing based therapies. We are seeking an experienced, high bandwidth leader, with domain expertise in cell and gene therapy or biological drug development to build and lead the therapy development programs with biopharma customers at LUPAGEN Life Sciences. The Head of Research will hire, develop, and coordinate a team that will include domain experts in clinical development and regulatory. This position will work directly with the Chief Scientific Officer and Head of Engineering in developing device prototypes and product development plans. As a leader in a small and emerging company, this role will have accountability for multiple development programs. Qualified candidates will have substantial experience in the areas of pre-clinical and clinical trial program planning, operations, and program execution, in the development of new technologies, especially in the area of drug-device combination products. Demonstrated ability to lead development programs to delivering on: budget, timeline, design specification, and quality metric commitments is required. This role will report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer.

Dallas metro, Boston metro, Flexible based on candidate; Travel 25-50%

Role and Responsibility

Accountable for all aspects of cell biology including establishing direction and hiring team
Collaborate with biopharma customers to meet their pre-clinical and clinical development program objectives from pre-IND to approval
Own the relationships with internal and external KOLs and subject matter experts
Oversight of internal staff, CROs, academic collaborators and customers
Ability to condense complex biology for presentation to investors and customers alike
Help build the company

Education & Experience

Ph.D. degree required in a biological field of study, preferably cell biology
Strong and diverse understanding of basic cell biology and protein production
10-15 years industry experience required in relevant areas which should include autologous cell therapy; preference to experience in drug-device combination product development
Understanding of the U.S. regulatory and EU regulatory process
Outstanding interpersonal skills and established collaborative working habits
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Must be comfortable in a “roll up your sleeves”, “wear lots of hats” and entrepreneurial company
